MacLeod Reckord is evaluating a range of alternative alignments and trail facility types to assist the City of Anacortes with completion of this very popular shoreline trail through some especially challenging segments. This 3-mile extension passes through private and public lands, including working waterfront businesses, alongside high value and culturally significant wetlands, connecting to the Guemes Ferry, Washington State Ferry, crossing State Route 20, and connecting to the Shannon Point WWU research facility and Washington Park. Early phases of this popular waterfront trail system are extremely popular with the local community and visitors, however routing through these final challenging segments requires a targeted public outreach process and collaborative effort to address individual concerns.
