Recognized as one of the nation’s largest military medical facilities, Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) provides a wide range of services for the state’s military personnel. The 478-bed hospital and out-patient clinic is located on a 160-acre site at Fort Lewis. MacLeod Reckord, in collaboration with the architect and engineer, provided the initial site planning for the building, parking, and numerous support facilities. In addition, MacLeod Reckord provided final design, documentation, and construction administration support for all exterior pedestrian circulation systems, entry plazas and dining and patient courtyards, a three-acre stream and pond system that provides for recirculation of water used in the mechanical operation of the building, and the planting and irrigation for the entire facility campus of the 325 million dollar medical facility. MAMC received the 1992 Department of Defense “Excellence in Design Award” for Landscape Architecture.
