Construction was recently completed on the City of Kent’s new YMCA and upgrades to the Morrill Meadows Park that surrounds it. Two grand opening ceremonies were held in September, for the building and the park. This effort involved forging a public/private partnership between the City Kent and the YMCA of Greater Seattle to create a holistic facility that celebrates and encourages active recreation indoors and out. The park improvements include a multi-purpose sport court, expanded unscheduled lawn areas for play and picnic, a new off-leash dog park, a plaza with fireplace off the building’s community gathering spaces, an outdoor game table area, and an expanded and improved trail system connecting all. The benefits for both the YMCA and the City are already proving to be tremendous. We thank the City of Kent and the YMCA of Greater Seattle for engaging us in making this dream a reality.
